Great book! Maybe I need to go re-read it to get an updated immersion in the argument about quality.

But one idea I've been coming back to, especially in the age of AI: quality is the standard of what we accept. When I was single, I ate lots of frozen pre-cooked chicken and rice for dinner. It was low quality, by most arguments, from both my foodie friends and my now-wife (a dietitian).

The choice to accept or reject seems like one of the persistent choices we have, especially concerning the outputs of AI. We make that choice at each response, but also when prompting and specifying standards, and even in choosing to use an AI tool for a given task. While we may not always we the writers, the creators, we at least get to be the editor, the curator, the one who accepts or rejects.

Maybe that's one shade of quality.
